how she knows

I forget that she understands a lot more than she can say.

When she kisses her stuffed animals, she kisses them on their mouths.

But that means she knows mouths are for kissing. It means she knows a mouth, whether it is made of flesh or made of yarn.

(I think that might be kind of amazing.)

There are pens and notebooks all over our house. I hardly see them anymore. I suppose we must use them.

These were within her reach.

She can only have known by watching what we don’t even realize we are doing.

And if she were to get hold your makeup brush? She would dust it over her cheek then look up at you, blinking.
