It gets so warm by late afternoon that sometimes I think, “Oh, how nice it would be to have a swimming pool.”
But if we did, we would probably never run through sprinklers.
And don’t you feel like there isn’t enough Saturday?
We always wake up early. For the past couple of weekends, we have been trying to get up early too, heading off to a farmer’s market right after coffee and oatmeal, and feeling twice-over pleased with ourselves: First for our bags of produce, and second for the huge day that’s still left when we’re finished shopping.
This morning, the lady who sells chickens and ducks, rabbits and doves, took a little white bunny out of its cage so Alice could pat it.
“She doesn’t know it’s going to be someone’s dinner,” David said.
The lady just smiled. We said thank you, and she put the rabbit away.
We drove home with tomatoes, peaches, nectarines, strawberries.
