She has always enjoyed music, but it is only recently that I have started to catch her humming to herself as she serves wedges of wooden birthday cake to the stuffed animals in her bedroom.
She likes to do “Itsy, Bitsy Spider” in different voices: “The Mama One,” which is high-pitched and squeaky, and “The Monster One,” which is growly and hilarious.
She makes up little tunes about pirate ships.
Sometimes, when she sings the ABC’s, she switches out a letter to see if I’ll notice.
Only, she gives herself away every time because she thinks the trick is so funny that she can’t help but laugh in anticipation.
“A B C D E F … (giggle, giggle, giggle) Bananas!”
But, for now, here’s Alice taking things seriously.
